BC Communications Inc. is contracted by the Vancouver Airport Authority to manage their Motorola 800MHz 2-way radio trunked radio network.
There are two system available to load onto at YVR Vancouver Airport:
- Motorola Connect Plus digital trunking is now available 2015-9. The airport authority is operating on this now.
- The legacy analogue Motorola SmartNet system that was installed prior to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic winter games will also remain in service for the next few years.
Motorola has announced the cancellation of the analogue SmartNet XPR4580, XPR4380, XPR6380 and XPR6580, with a last order date of 2015-12-15. After this date there will be no new radios available to purchase to load onto the analogue system. The cancellation notice can be viewed here
Both systems are installed in a secure air side location, has a dedicated uninterruptible power supply, lightning protection and is monitored for health. Many users rely on this system.
The cost is $29.90 per radio per month pro-rated. There is no contract. The cost of radio hardware is not included. BC Communications invoices monthly in advance on behalf of YVR.
If you require radios, we supply options for sale, rent, or to program existing radios to be loaded onto the system. We are on site several times each week; We are a full service Motorola Shop with many technicians to service your radio fleet. Our staff has full RAIC security clearance and some are permitted to drive airside as required for mobile radio installations .
We also supply and service air band radios, Industry Canada licenses
