Our founder is a member of our local Squamish Search and Rescue team. The idea came after noticing how often the speaker mic is keyed by accident by various members of the team. This can be a common issue, especially for people who wear a lot of bulky gear such as backpacks and winter clothing. Blocking transmission for others by accidentally pushing your PTT button can be safety concern, as well as annoying for others, not to mention potentially embarrassing for you.
Not wanting to be unsuspecting “Hot Mic” on the crew, he created a Push to Talk button guard for the speaker mic. The Hot Mic prevents accidental pressing of the PTT button on a speaker
mic. Designed for Industries that use two-way portable radios and speaker microphones: emergency responders (police, fire, paramedics, search and rescue), security, ski patrol, manufacturing, utility companies, forestry, transportation and hospitality.
We use TPU (Thermoplastic polyurethane) a thermoplastic material for 3D printing The Hot Mic. TPU has high wear resistance and resilience. It also offers good compression, and durability. TPU has superior tear strength, high elasticity and is resistance to water, oil, grease, fuel, solvent, chemicals and elevated temperatures. It is easily washed and sterilized. And TPU recyclable.
We design, test and 3D print all our products. We want to share the solutions we have created with people who experience the same problem, and we guarantee everything we make. Purpose-built for Motorola MOTOTRBO radios, TRBOnet™ is a professional computer application developed for dispatch centers to monitor large amounts of radio traffic. Supporting digital and analog channels, TRBOnet™ is especially impactful for agencies and business migrating to a digital platform. TRBOnet™ can seamlessly link multiple public safety agencies or departments for optimal first responder communication and coordination effectiveness.
TRBOnet™ enables operators and dispatchers to monitor audio and data from radio channels, have real-time visibility to the radio’s location, provide record management and the ability to review events within seconds of their occurrence.
TRBOnet™ utilizes the capabilities of digital Motorola MOTOTRBO™ radios. The TRBOnet™ solution expands the standard capabilities of MOTOTRBO™ radios and features carrying out voice calls along with data transfer. Data can mean many things such as; text messaging, email messaging, speed and location of vehicle etc.
The TRBOnet™ solution is developed for communication management and monitoring for many different organizations or enterprises. Examples include; public safety (police, fire, ambulance), transportation, and municipal services. TRBOnet™ has proven itself as a productivity enhancing and life saving tool wherever there is a necessity of radio user status and location detection, sending of text messages, emergency and digital data transfer.
Figure above shows the design of the console.
Scalability and reliability are key advantages of TRBOnet. Any radio network can be increased without limits, both in quantity of users and territory of use. With TRBOnet™ there is no “central mind”, and in the case of failure of one component the whole system will continue to function.
Implementation of TRBOnet™ and MOTOTRBO™ will considerably increase efficiency of production and business processes due to allocation of radio communication services.
The main component of the system is a “RadioServer” program software installed in a computer, and a digital fixed radio or base station for ensuring connection with MOTOTRBO™ mobile users through a radio channel.
When the power is turned on the MOTOTRBO™ base station, it sends an authorization enquiry to the RadioServer and all registers users on the network. For registered users, all TRBOnet™ features become available, such as individual and group calls, sending of text messages, use of built-in telemetry, GPS-monitoring of users, and conversation recording.
In the RadioServer database, information is stored about all registered users and base station activity. The number of users working with any RadioServer is limited with radio channel capacity only.
There can be an unlimited number of RadioServers situated at any point in the world – the only requirement is Internet access. Unlimited number of dispatchers can connect to any RadioServers through IP networks.
A dispatcher can call any available user on their TRBOnet™ network from the dispatcher’s profile.
TRBOnet™ uses GPS-receiver and digital maps (many formats are supported) and built-in base stations to monitor and manage fleet of movable objects. At the same time, a dispatcher can get online information about the current location of a police car, ambulance or vehicle transporting covetable or dangerous items, by viewing it on a digital map. And if needed, TRBOnet™ enables the operator to communicate with the mobile user through radio communication or transfer data to the user in digital format.
TRBOnet™ is based on client-server architecture. The main advantage is system flexibility: TRBOnet™ can be installed on a single computer and is also designed for distributed systems.
TRBOnet™ RadioServer connects to MOTOTRBO repeaters using UDP protocol and receives/transmits data and digital audio (native AMBE+2)
TRBOnet™ can be connected to several single repeaters or IP systems simultaneously. A dispatcher operates with all repeaters/sites as with one radio system. CrossPatch feature will tie repeaters/sites together. Roaming allows units moving from one site to another and to keep contact with a dispatcher.
The powerful solution provides a VoIP software based control center for MOTOTRBO™ radios and is the layer between transport and network level protocols (UPD and TCP/IP). TRBOnet™ Enterprise supports all features of MOTOTRBO™ radios (Capacity Plus, GPS Positioning, Text Messaging, ARS, and Telemetry) and offers you a number of specific options such as Voice Recording, Geo-Fencing, Lone Worker operation, Intercom, Scheduler for Text Messages, Unit Activity Monitor and, Email Communications.
The simplest dispatch system supported by TRBOnet™ Enterprise consists of one RadioServer which operates as a gateway between radios and an IP network, that can connect an unlimited number of dispatcher consoles. The system is intuitive and user-friendly. TRBOnet™ Dispatchers have a simple and easy-to-use interface which allows them to service dozens of radios and radio groups.
To connect to radio networks, TRBOnet™ Enterprise uses one or more Motorola MOTOTRBO™ base stations. Dispatchers connect to the RadioServer via local wire or wireless networks or Internet and use IP protocol.
TRBOnet™ Enterprise supports distributed dispatch systems where Dispatchers from around the globe can connect to a central RadioServer. For instance, Dispatchers from Vancouver and Toronto can connect to a RadioServer installed in London or Melbourne to check positions of their mobile units, communicate with the subscribers and fellow Dispatchers.
TRBOnet™ Enterprise supports radio networks which operate with both analog (including MDC) and digital subscribers. At that, calling subscribers’ ID (call sign) is always visible to Dispatchers.
All radio traffic is registered within the dispatch system. Dispatchers can replay audio records and, if necessary, download separate audio files to their PC for reporting.
*More features are available to digital subscribers.
Dispatch system supports subscriber status control. The subscriber’s status is reflected in dispatcher consoles. When subscribers come online, their assigned Dispatchers receive notifications (subscriber’s status always displays in his or her Dispatcher’s console). After that, subscriber’s radio station regularly reports its GPS coordinates to the RadioServer. Assigned Dispatchers can review station movements on various electronic maps and set a tracking mode.
GeoFencing feature implies control over crossings of set regions. TRBOnet™ Enterprise allows you to appoint regions to subscribers and view or be alerted to the crossing of pre-defiened borders, which can be useful for operation in classified units or restricted areas. Both subscriber and Dispatcher receive notifications when the subscriber crosses predefined boundary and the breach is registered within the dispatch system.
Dispatchers receive all incoming text messages from subscribers and can send text to a specific subscriber or group of subscribers. Dispatch system can re-transmit the received messages to specified email addresses.
The access control for Dispatchers is fully supported. You can set different access permissions for each Dispatcher. For instance, you can designate a Dispatcher for a several groups of subscribers, and then information on other radio stations for the subscriber will be unavailable. Permissions to add, modify or remove subscribers from the dispatch system as well as changes to RadioServer channel, etc. can also be limited.
Intercom feature provides Dispatchers with a communication option apart from radio network, which minimizes the radio load.
VoIP technology offers the possibility of transmitting voice via IP networks. Thus, a remote dispatcher having access to the radioserver via IP network can communicate with radio network subscribers and other dispatchers from any place of the world.
Voice Recording:
TRBOnet provides recording of all conversations between dispatchers and subscribers, including private calls and text messages between subscribers (direct IP connect to repeaters is required). The conversations are stored as audio files on the hard disk and are logged in the event log with date, time and playback capability.
TX Passive:
The TX Passive function allows for delaying the transmission in case the line is busy. The dispatcher records a message and queues it. TRBOnet™ RadioServer transmits the message as soon as the line becomes available.
Intercom:
The Intercom function allows the dispatchers to communicate among themselves separately from the main line, lessening the load of the line.
Telephone Interconnect:
The telephone Interconnect function allows making calls from radios to telephones and from telephones to radios. A dispatcher can also make calls from the Dispatcher Console.
CrossPatch:
The CrossPatch enables dispatchers to patch talk groups, channels, sites and systems together to enable seamless communication between all radio users on TRBOnet™, regardless of frequency or if the radios are operating in Analog, Digital, IP site connect or Capacity plus.
Emergency:
The Emergency call is activated by the emergency button on a MOTOTRBO™ radio. When a subscriber presses the emergency button, the alarm mode is activated and the dispatcher gets the alarm message. All the calls from this subscriber become broadcast and the system starts the monitoring of the subscriber. The system also generates alarm signal after one of the following events:
Speed Policy
GPS Positioning:
The MOTOTRBO™ integrated GPS allows for indication of subscribers’ location and routes on map. Vector and raster maps are supported (i.e. Google Earth, MapPoint, MapLib, etc).
Indoor Positioning:
TRBOnet™ InDoor is a software and hardware system that allows positioning and control of digital MOTOTRBO™ subscribers indoors where GPS satellite navigation system signals are unavailable.
Geofencing and Speed Control Policies:
The Geofencing function lets the dispatcher limit the movement of subscribers. The dispatcher can add regions on the map and make rules for entering or leaving a region. For example, when a subscriber leaves a region, the system sends him/her a message and generates an alarm signal for the dispatcher.
Messages (Predefined messages, Scheduled Text messages, Text passive):
Both dispatchers and subscribers can send messages. The Predefined messages function allows for sending template messages. The Scheduled Text messages function implements the possibility to send messages in an exact interval or in time set by the dispatcher. The Text passive function is used in situations when a subscriber is offline. If a message has been sent it will be delivered when the subscriber is online.
Telemetry:
TRBOnet™ uses the data from telemetry sensors and buttons. For example, when a telemetry button on subscriber’s radio is pressed the dispatcher gets the message about the telemetry. The dispatcher can set the parameters for telemetry.
Lone Worker:
The Lone Worker policy lets the dispatcher set a time interval in which the communication with a subscriber is expected. For example, if a lone worker hasn’t called the dispatcher for 15 minutes, he/she gets a message and the dispatcher gets an alarm signal.
User Activity:
The User Activity function lets the dispatcher make lists subscribers can be assigned to due to their activity. For example, if a subscriber sends a message “On duty” or presses an exact pre-set telemetry button this subscriber gets assigned to the “On duty” list in the Remote Dispatcher Console. The dispatcher can also assign subscribers to lists manually.
Stun Kill Passive:
If the dispatcher gives a command to kill a radio which is offline TRBOnet™ can delay killing this radio. As soon as the radio is online the server kills it.
Radio Allocation:
An exact radio can be now assigned in the system to any employee registered in the system. This can be very useful for situations with shift workers. All the radios are disabled and an employee will need to enter username and password to take a radio or return it. When the radio is taken it gets enabled and assigned to this worker in the system. When the radio is returned it is no longer assigned to the employee and it gets disabled again.
